Team proposes 12 steps to slash CO2

A government-affiliated research team Thursday announced 12 proposals to slash Japan’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, including encouraging people to eat food in season.
The team, which included researchers from the National Institute for Environmental Studies, said the measures would help to reduce the nation’s CO2 emissions by 70 percent in 2050 from the 1990 level.
The 12 proposals also press for the maximum use of solar and wind power, urban planning that reduces road traffic and the development and sales of products that require fewer emissions in the production stage.
