Home greenhouse gas reductions eyed in CO2 emission trading system ( a trial basis in October)

The government is considering including greenhouse gas emissions from homes, farms and public facilities in the carbon emission trading system scheduled to launch on a trial basis in October, it has been learned.
By expanding the scope of the system, the government hopes to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions with the help of the Japanese public.
In line with the trial emissions trading system, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is also considering launching a domestic credit system.
Under the system, a third-party organization would verify reductions in carbon dioxide emissions of small- and medium-sized businesses that have accomplished the reductions through measures such as introducing energy-efficient technology. Major companies could then ”buy” these emission reductions and count them as their own. In order to have a wide range of participants in the system, the ministry decided to include households, farms and public facilities. ......
