松下村塾是吉田松阴对青年人进行教育的私塾。松阴是一位在日本江户幕府末期倡导日本维新的思想家，1830年出生于现在的山口县萩市，自幼学兵法，旅游日本全国各地，对日本的未来怀抱了担忧之情。他继承了叔父在萩市开设的私塾――松下村塾，但是后来因为打倒江户幕府的活动暴露出来，只有两年多就关闭。然而它仅仅在这不到两年的岁华教养了如高杉晋作等后来成为日本领导人的众多青年人。于1859年，松阴在年龄30岁时被处刑。松下村塾是一所规模极小的建筑物，至今仍然得到珍惜保存。
