First Carbon Credit Transaction Conducted on Carbon Credit Trading Platform

The world’s first transaction of certified emission reductions (CERs) took place last Thursday on the Carbon Credit Trading Platform (CCTP), a website set up jointly by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Japan Institute for Overseas Investment (JOI). CERs are greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions generated from clean development project activities and issued by the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board under the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement adopted by the member countries of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
