温室ガス削減ＩＰＣＣ案「真剣に検討」　首脳宣言案判明 G-8 statement to refer to 'ambitious' scenario on reducing emissions

Failing to agree on numerical targets, Group of Eight leaders will instead call for ”deep cuts” in greenhouse gas emissions based on an ”ambitious” scenario in a statement next month, according to a draft.
The statement will be adopted on the sidelines of the three-day G-8 summit starting July 7 at the Lake Toyako resort in Hokkaido.
According to the draft of the statement obtained by The Asahi Shimbun on Tuesday, the major carbon-emitting nations will ”urge serious consideration be given” to the scenario drawn up by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The IPCC scenario calls for a 50-percent reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. But the draft of the statement does not mention that target.
Despite its failure to set numerical goals, the statement will effectively make the IPCC scenario the standard for a new global framework on greenhouse gas reductions after the commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol ends in 2012.
